Whatever happened to the toning shoes?

Toning or unstable footwear were all the craze a decade ago. The makers of these footwear made remarkable claims for them. Such claims ranged from enabling weight loss to reducing cellulite to toning the glutes to fixing low back pain. The shoes had a rocker on the bottom aimed at increasing muscle activity to obtain those presumed benefits. Unfortunately, the research just didn’t support the claims and there was a great deal of litigation from dissatisfied consumers and many manufacturers had to make multi-million dollar settlements with the Ftc.

While all that is in the past you can find a few of these shoes on the market and they still do have certain support from those who are acquainted with the footwear. The shoes do affect the way that you move and for some individuals that could sometimes lead to an improvement in some things like sore backs. Equally, it could make some individuals with low back pain feel more painful. There is a lot of research being geared towards researching just what toning shoes do and precisely who can benefit from them and who might be harmed by them. Each person are going to react in different ways the shoe.
Podiatrists seem to especially like these sorts of toning shoes due to the type of patients that they see. The rocker sole character of the footwear means they are especially great for those with a sore great toe joint, as with the footwear the joint does not need to move as much. However, while that may be helpful for that joint it can put more force on the ankle joint so might create or make more painful issues at the ankle joint. It was concerns like this that led to the litigation issues in the past and need to be carefully considered by anyone suggesting or using these shoes. They do have their uses and they may help for the right individuals with the appropriate problem
